On January 1, 1999, eleven of the countries in the European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) decided to give up their own currencies and adopt the new Euro (EUR) currency: Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. Greece followed suit on January 1, 2001. The Vatican City also participated in the changeover. This changeover is now complete.

Arrival in Amsterdam, *Greeted by EF Tour Director.

Stroll along the canal-lined streets of Amsterdam. Cross Dam Square, then pass by the Koninklijk Paleis (Royal Palace) and the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), site of Dutch oronations.

Visit to the Anne Frank House

*Canal cruise on board a glass-topped boat—ride past the city’s lowest bridge and smallest house.  *Visit a local diamond factory.

Optional excursion to Volendam fishing village  heart of the Dutch countryside.  Visit cheese & clog making shops.

Day 4

Transfer to Heidelberg •  Tour director sightseeing of Heidelberg •

Heidelberg’s 700-year-old Schloss (palace) and its famous Fass (wine barrel), the world’s largest.  See the Marktplatz, where witches were once burned at the stake.

Day 5 Heidelberg • Munich

Transfer to Munich,

Transfer via Innsbruck • Located at the intersection of the Austrian province of Tyrol and the site of two Winter Olympics (1964 and 1976).

Arrival in Venice • Arrive in magical Venice, home of Marco Polo.

Guided sightseeing in Venice • Begin your tour at St. Mark’s Square. See the Grand

Canal and the 324-foot Bell Tower.  Look for the clock where two bronze figures have been striking the hour for over 500 years.

Visit to Doges’ Palace * Stroll over “the Bridge of Sighs,  connecting the palace and its prison. *See  a glassblowing demonstration.

Transfer via Verona • Transfer by way of Romeo and Juliet’s Verona. See the town’s Roman Arena, which dates back to the first century A.D.

Guided sightseeing of Lucerne.  View the Löwendenkmal

(Lion Monument) and stroll across the Kapellbrücke.

Optional ½ day excursion to the top of Mt. Pilatus  Travel by boat across Lake  Lucerne then ride the steepest cog railway in the world to the top of Mt. Pilatus.

Day 10 Lucerne Region • Dijon

Transfer via Burgundy • Travel amidst the vineyards of Burgundy and pass through Beaune, once the headquarters for the dukes of Burgundy.

Admire the Côte d’Or (Hills of Gold).   Dijon is well-known for its wine-based moutarde (mustard).

Arrival in Paris • Arrive in Paris, one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities.

Guided sightseeing of Paris • Pass the Arc de Triomphe,  Île de la Cité, the

Champs-Elysées, the Place de la Concorde, Conciergerie,  Les Invalides. and the École Militaire.  Make a photo stop at the 6,000 ton Eiffel Tower.

Visit Notre Dame Cathedral.

Day 13 Paris • London

Transfer via Eurostar from Paris to London •

In Paris, board the high-speed Eurostar, an 18-car train that runs through the tunnel connecting continental Europe with Britain.

Guided sightseeing of London *Pass Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park and   Buckingham Palace. Visit St. Paul’s Cathedral.
